Most of the failing young trees we are called out to look at were not killed by disease or storms. They were planted wrong — too deep, in the wrong spot, in a hole that trapped water, with the nursery wire still around the root ball.
Planting a tree well is cheap. Fixing or replacing one a decade later is not. Our TCIA Certified Tree Care Specialists treat a new planting as the first and most important piece of tree care your property will ever get.

What We Get Right at Planting
Right Place
Mature spread, root run, utilities, foundations, and driveways are all checked before a hole is dug, so the tree still fits in 30 years.
Right Soil Prep
Planting pits are dug wide and shallow with the sides loosened, so roots can move out into native soil instead of circling in a slick clay bowl.
Right Depth
The root flare is set at or slightly above grade. Planting too deep is the single most common reason young trees quietly fail years later.
Right Nursery Stock
We inspect for girdling roots, damaged bark, and poor structure, and correct root defects at planting rather than burying the problem.

Avoid these mistakes
The Planting Errors That Kill Trees Slowly
None of these show up right away. The tree looks fine for three or four years, then starts thinning, and by the time anyone notices, the damage is structural.
- Planting too deep so the root flare disappears underground.
- Volcano mulching piled against the trunk, holding rot at the bark.
- Leaving wire baskets, burlap, and nursery twine around the root ball.
- Ignoring circling and girdling roots from a pot-bound tree.
- Staking too tightly or leaving stakes on for years.
