Tree Removal Permits in The Woodlands
The Woodlands protects its tree canopy. Before a live tree comes down on your lot, you will usually need approval from the Township. Here is what homeowners should know.
When you need approval
The Woodlands Township asks residents to submit an application to remove any live tree that is six inches in diameter or larger. Requests go through the Township's covenant administration process.
Rules can change and can differ by village, so always check the current requirements with The Woodlands Township before removing a tree.
Common reasons removals are approved
- The tree is dead or dying.
- It is damaged by a storm or has a dangerous lean.
- It threatens the home, foundation, roof or driveway.
- Disease or pests like pine beetles have taken hold.
How we help Woodlands homeowners
- A TCIA Certified specialist inspects the tree and tells you honestly whether it can be saved.
- We explain the tree's condition in plain terms you can use for your application.
- Once approved, we remove the tree in controlled sections and clean up the site.
- If the tree can be saved, we recommend pruning or deep root fertilization instead.
